It has happened. I have taught a child something and she retained it.
I've been working on figurative language for a few weeks now with several of my students. Many of them just don't understand idioms, similes, or metaphors. Much of them take everything they hear literally.
But today, one of my 7th grade students came up to me and told me of an idiom she heard another teacher use. She even explained to me what it meant and how she thought it became figurative language. This work does pay off...I guess I just need to keep going.
Its weird how sentimental I get about this. I mean I like my job. I don't mind coming to work, except for the whole having to wake up early thing. I just wish I was better at my job.
